The adaptation of this game in Trentino dialect wouldn't have been possible without the thorough "Vocabolario della parlata dialettale contemporanea della Città di Trento", a masterful work compiled by Elio Fox and printend in 2014, thanks to studies lasting about 40 years. We acquired this dictionary after attending a presentation in a bookstore, where we were captivated by it. After nearly a decade, we finally had the opportunity to fully exploit its full potential, rather than using it every now and then to solve doubts and curiosities.
Due to its not-so-simple consultation, we also relied on the following online materials:
- A digitalized version of Vocabolario trentino-italiano (Vittore Ricci 1904)
- A list of 5000+ words in a blog post on Piccolo vocabolario trentino italiano (Arcopoesia)
💠
Midway through the project, having decided to introduce local references such as legends and mythical creatures, materials found online were immensely helpful, including images and maps of the Kingdom of the Fanes, studies, and collections discovered during long hours of research.
The original saga from the author who collected the local stories
Foremost among them:
- The incredibly accurate website Il regno dei Fanes
- A short 4-part film illustrating the legend of the Kingdom of the Fanes
- An award-winning yet relatively unknown film that follows the main plot of the legend. We didn't have enough time to watch it, but it's on our watch list as soon as we release this project!
💠
Some scattered images that inspired our setting:
- The Tatzelwurm, even though it's not related to the Fanes legend, is still a folklore creature from the Alps region
- A graphic novel based on the original legend. We haven't read it, but now we surely have to add it to our collection!
- Some characters (here the wizard) from the drawings of Elisa Di Virgilio
- A map of the Fanes kingdom
- Another map, from jrrtolkien.it site
💠
Maps from Google, following the places mentioned in our game, for those not familiar with Italy and Trentino:
Italy
Northern Italy, Trentino is in the top right corner
The places of our adventure, starting from Trento, reaching Val di Fassa, Canazei, Val Badia and Braies lake.

The last tools:
- The game has been translated with a CAT tool. After discovering that MemoQ is not supported on Mac OS, Davide opted for Crowdin tool for freelance translators.
- For changes to the coding part Davide used IntelliJ IDEA.
